Li-Li asked me where the bubbla was while we were waiting for the dentist yesterday. I had to ask her to repeat herself 3 times before I realized she wasn’t mispronouncing or asking permission to smoke something — I looked it up on my phone while she was getting a little fluoride treatment: it’s a drinking fountain in Mass., RI, and Wisconsin. Last year, our waitress gave me a dark look when I said I had no clue what this “Hoodsie” was she was recommending for my daughter. Li did. She’s not only profoundly deaf but she’s from China and learned English as a second language, and yet apparently my child is more fluent in Boston English than I am.
