Children's Hospital Mapping Session 05.22.09

Children’s Hospital Mapping Session 05.22.09

DEVICE INFORMATION:

  • Implant model: Nucleus Freedom CI24RE(CA)
  • Speech processor in use: Freedom BTE
  • Ear/date of initial stimulation:  Right (10/25/07), Left (9/16/08)

CURRENT SERVICES:

  • School program: The Learing Center for the Deaf, auditory access preschool program
  • Aural rehabilitation: Laurie Wallace, SLP 3X/Wk

OBSERVATIONS SINCE LAST MAPPING

Equipment:

  • Li-Li is doing great using both processors together. She will sometimes request breaks for one or the other, but not with either one consistently.
  • Li-Li wears her processors stuck in her pigtails; while this is perfectly acceptable, special attention needs to be paid to making sure the microphone ports are oriented forward (as they would be on an ear) and that they are not coverd by ponytail holders.
  • Li-Li is able to put her processors on independently.

Auditory perception/speech production:

  • Li-Li reportedly loves opera and is enjoying taking piano lessons. She is making excellent progress toward her listening and spoken English IEP goals .

MAPPING SESSION (5/22/09)
EQUIPMENT CHECK:

  • Visual Inspection: OK
  • Listening Check: OK
  • Impedence Telemetry: OK

PROGRAMMING: Appropriate levels of stimulation were determined and the speech processor was reprogrammed accordingly, with any needed adjustments made for loudness comfort and for maximizing speech perception.

  • Response method for threshold levels: Conditioned Play
  • Response method for comfort levels: behavioral observation

The following maps (programs) were downloaded into the speech processor:

RIGHT:

  • PI (Map#36): Backup (Old P3)
  • P2 (Map#43): Noisy places (Autosensitivity+ADRO)
  • P3 (Map#42): Everyday Listening Program (EDR~42CU by reported comfort)
  • P4 (Map#44): Music/quiet places (ADRO+Whisper)

PROGRAM NOTES:

Volume Control: Disabled

Sensitivity Control: Disabled

LEFT:

  • PI (Map#33): Backup (Old P3)
  • P2 (Map#41): Noisy places (AutoSensitivity+ADRO)

  • P4 (Map#40): Music/Quiet places (ADRO+Whisper)

PROGRAM NOTES:

Volume Control: Disabled

Sensitivity Control: Disabled

Li-Li’s mother requested to have a music program installed. Li-Li’s “quiet places” program (P4 in each processor) is actually set up as a music program, and she can therefore use P4 for both purposes. Her mother was counseled that although music programs are excellent for improving music in quiet environments, it is not practical (and possibly even detrimental) for listening to music in noisy places, like in busy music class. In these situations, her noise program (P2) may be a better option.
