Cochlear Implant Activation Day!

All electrodes are firing, she reacted immediately and began laughing and smiling at the electronic sounds, and then … at our voices. It’s pretty incredible — she can now hear!Much work to do on that — it’s more like a tickling sensation in her head right now when we make sounds, but now her brain will begin rewiring to receive those sensations as sound and she’ll begin to associate them with concepts, like ball, dog, and mommy! And now I’ve got to think about getting her an iPod and an iPhone: her big box from Cochlear Americas has a package of adaptors to plug them right in!The big moment ...cochlear activationListening

She looks so precious!! I’m so happy her activation went so well! It will only get better from here. Does she have the body worn or the BTE? I have a few links on my site to parents of children that have been implanted and they are loaded with all sorts of tips and tricks!! I wish you the best of luck.

Abbie, thanks so much! And I can’t wait until we get to Cochlear Americas’ version of the very cool advanced mapping programs you’ve got going (I’ve been following along on your site).
