    My first (and somehow only) public appearance with a musical instrument was in Charlottesville, 1993, playing the so-critical bass drum on two songs: Blue Suede’s ooga chaka version of Hooked On a Feeling (well before Ally McBeal’s dancing baby, children) and in Also Sprach Zarathustra (the theme from 2001 A Space Odyssey).HoffI haven’t seen this video for a couple of years, but Lauren at feministe just made my day by posting it: Ooga Chaka .Oh no, does this mean I have German sense of humor?!?

      I loved every moment of it — despite my extreme stage fright. It was my “cowbell” moment — the crowd loved the drum. Still waiting for VH1 Behind the Music to ask for the tapes!!! Hey, I was in Atlanta last . . . and visiting myparents for Thanksgiving doesn’t count as a visit to me. Tag, you’re it — come on up!
