The coldest place? My house, two days without heat or hot water, no end in sight

coldest place The “liquifactor” in this picture looks suspiciously like my now-defunct oil burner and hot water furnace system. And given the difficulty our oil burner service expects to have in finding a replacement motor within the next couple of weeks, may be of the same vintage. I believe the space just in front of our kitchen sink — where I washed my hair in boiled water and sponge-bathed — reached a temperature well below the 37 degrees registered today in Vartok, Antartica. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Time to join the health club … my New Year’s Resolutions should have included: Take a warm shower.

Blow, blow, thou winter wind,Thou art not so unkindAs man’s ingratitude.Thy tooth is not so keen,Because thou art not seen,Although thy breath be rude.Hey-ho, sing hey-ho, unto the green holly. Most friendship is feigning, most loving, mere folly. Then hey-ho, the holly; This life is most jolly.Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky,That dost not bite so nighAs benefits forgot.Though thou the waters warp,Thy sting is not so sharpAs friend remembered not.Hey-ho, sing hey-ho, unto the green holly. Most friendship is feigning, most loving, mere folly. Then hey-ho, the holly; This life is most jolly.~ from Shakespeare’s As You Like It

I suppose it would be crass to point out that it is a balmy 46 degrees at 11:00pm EST in Richmond? I’m enjoying your sight. - Doug

    Cruel, Mister Softy, very cruel.

Brrrr.  By the way, I tried very hard to drill into the little B-B twins that they should be referring to Claire’s daddy as “Mister Softy”, but not sure it “took.”

With time, for irony or wisdom to light their lobes with awareness of that silly uncle. I want to write a song to that As You Like It excerpt. Just need to isolate the boxed up recording equipment from the genealogy research and find a suitable brush to take the rust off the g’tar strings. “Blow blow…..”
