Stress is surefire hangover cure

So, according to the latest research, the straight up stress from my previous job protected me from quite a few bang-up nasty hangovers, despite the continuous and voluminous drinking expressly required of all “team players” exhibiting that core quality of “fun.” Thank you, previous employer, for mind-numbing stress! And thank you, current employer and the lovely Shakatz, for making it possible for me to become totally silly at Sonsie on two glasses of wine. The result of low stress? I am, once again, a cheap date. From New Scientist: ‘Hangover gene’ is key to alcohol tolerance

A gene that helps fruit flies develop alcohol tolerance has been found and named “hangover”. The gene also controls the flies’ response to stress, and the researchers say that a similar pathway linking alcohol tolerance and stress probably functions in humans. The findings may explain why people who have been in a stressful situation often have a blunted response to alcohol and may need to drink more to feel inebriated, experts say, putting them at greater risk of becoming addicted.
